1. Introduction
REC Marketplace ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our renewable energy certificate trading platform.
By accessing or using the REC Marketplace, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the platform immediately.
2. Information We Collect
Blockchain Wallet Addresses: When you connect your Web3 wallet (e.g., MetaMask), we collect your public wallet address. This address is publicly visible on the blockchain and is necessary for REC transactions, ownership verification, and certificate issuance.
Transaction Data: All REC purchases, sales, transfers, and retirements are recorded on the Ethereum blockchain (Sepolia Testnet during beta). This data is immutable and publicly accessible by design.
Usage Data: We may collect anonymized usage data such as pages visited, features used, browser type, and device information to improve the platform experience.
Newsletter Subscription: If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address solely for the purpose of sending updates about REC releases and eco-friendly energy trends.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information to: (a) facilitate REC trading, issuance, and management on the blockchain; (b) display your portfolio, transaction history, and environmental impact on the dashboard; (c) verify ownership of RECs for RE100 compliance purposes; (d) improve platform functionality and user experience; (e) send newsletters and updates if you have opted in; (f) comply with legal and regulatory obligations.
4. Blockchain Data & Transparency
REC Marketplace operates on public blockchain infrastructure. By nature, all on-chain transactions — including wallet addresses, token transfers, REC issuance records, and retirement events — are permanently and publicly recorded.
We cannot delete, modify, or restrict access to data that has been written to the blockchain. Users should be aware that their wallet address and transaction history are visible to anyone with access to the Ethereum network.
Smart contract interactions, including minting, listing, buying, transferring, and burning RECs, are executed directly through your wallet and are irreversible once confirmed.
5. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with: (a) blockchain networks as required for transaction execution; (b) analytics providers using anonymized, aggregated data; (c) legal authorities if required by law or to protect our rights; (d) WalletConnect and RainbowKit for wallet connection services, subject to their own privacy policies.
6. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. Your wallet security, including private key management, is your sole responsibility.
We strongly recommend using hardware wallets for significant REC holdings and never sharing your private keys or seed phrases with anyone.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to: (a) access information we hold about you; (b) request correction of inaccurate data; (c) request deletion of off-chain data (note: on-chain data cannot be deleted); (d) opt out of newsletter communications at any time; (e) disconnect your wallet from the platform at any time.
To exercise these rights, please contact us at recen@recen.net.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
